Questions by Prospective Parents
Question:
Is there any charge for the services provided by Options?
Answer:
No. Options is a non-profit agency and does not charge for it's services to parents or providers.
How do I qualify for child care?
Answer:
Upon completion of an Eligibility Questionnaire, your need, family size and income are evaluated. Your family is then placed on an Eligibility list. When an opening comes available you are notified.
How long do I need to wait?
Answer: We enroll families based on funding available from the State of California. When openings occur, we notify the eligible family to begin the enrollment process. The demand for Subsidized Child Care is great and the funding is limited. Therefore, priority is given to families according to State Department of Education guidelines for income eligibility and program priorities.
Who checks on the quality of providers?
Answer:

Community Care Licensing is the agency that oversees the licensing of providers and monitors them on an ongoing basis. Parents will receive assistance from Options on how to select a child care provider. A checklist on what questions to ask and how to select a qualified provider is available. Please contact Options Resource and Referral Department for further assistance.

What is the difference between Family Child Care and Center Based Care?
Answer:
A Family Child Care Home is operated in the licensee's own home and provides non-medical care and supervision to 14 or fewer children in a home like environment for less than 24 hours.
A Child Care Center is normally operated outside the licensee's home and provides non-medical care and supervision to infants, toddlers, preschoolers and/or school-age children for periods of less than 24 hours. These centers are usually in commercial buildings.
How many children can a Provider care for?
Answer:
A Family Child Care Provider may care for 8 or less children with 2 of the children being kindergarten age or above. A provider that cares for 14 or fewer children must have an assistant and include 2 children kindergarten age or above. There is also a limit of the number of infants a provider can care for. For any Family Child Care Home or Center based care all providers must clearly post their license which states the number of children that the facility is licensed.
